Country Breakfasts

countrybreakfast

Rural life in the 1940s - up North by Amish farms
Life was rather primitive - but really had its charms
We used giant horses - that weighed more than a ton
Had both pigs and cows - as did most everyone

When chilly Fall came round - plans were underway
Prepare for winter larder - with a big butcher day
A porker was then processed - for both hams and bacon
But quite important too - the excess pork was taken

With many hours of grinding - with pepper and with sage
Became the best sausage - compared with any age
'Twas cooked in several ways - in patties or in links
Both best fried or baked - is what everybody thinks

Packed in crocks or jars - for the cold winter days
For a country breakfast - made in different ways
This is one example - of life on a rural farm
Folks there were so busy - it kept them out of harm.
