I enjoy the town of St. Augustine which is about an hour south of Jacksonville. It has a wonderful historic district with the center being St. George St. It has lovely shops, places to eat, sidewalks wide enough to stroll and people watch.

The Catholic Cathedral is in the center of this historic district and you can enter it during the day to say prayers. The Government House is a museum and it too is right there to enjoy.

Flagler College is a private school and also can be toured.

There is a first Friday Art walk each month and the Art Galleries stay open late and this is a popular event for the city.

You can travel around the city by horse and buggy or can do the trolley as they both give a historical review of St. Augustine.

Bed and Breakfasts are also within the historic district and you can just park your car and walk to all of these sights.

I recommend O'Steen's for their Shrimp dinner. Gypsy Cab is also excellent. When on St. George St. make sure you go to The Bunnery for a coffee and dessert.

Of course, you can drive out to the beach on A1A and travel south to several other beach areas. St. Augustine Beach also has several places to shop and eat.
